Type of Shower Door Glass

Type of Glass: All shower glass is tempered safety glass.

Thickness:  Modern frameless shower glass most commonly comes in 3/8" thick.  It is a noticeable upgrade to have 1/2" thick shower glass.  The material cost (glass only) goes up about 20% to get the upgraded thickness. 


Most framed shower glass is 1/4" thick.  The frame is the added support.



Color: Most common is clear glass.  Starfire or otherwise known as Low Iron glass is an upgrade that is eye catching.  Starfire glass does not have the green edges (iron) it will look blue and or reflect the dominant color of the room (no picture is shown here).  Bronze glass is available and is used for very narrow application.  Satin Etch and Rain are the privacy option.  Rain costs a little less than Satin Etch.  Judd's works with vendors to have art etched into the glass, ask during consultation. 



Glass Protection & Easy Clean Options

The first is the Diamon-Fusion® protective coating, providing durability and a lifetime warranty on residential surfaces for enhanced cleanliness and ease of maintenance. Diamon-Fusion is a chemical application that is applied after fabrication.  Diamond-Fusion has a do not use list of cleaners.  Some aggressive gleaners can remove Diamon-Fusion.



Alternatively, choose ShowerGuard glass from Guardian Glass, also backed by a lifetime warranty. ShowerGuard is baked into the glass and is a superior product that will add about 10-15% material cost to the glass only.

Frameless Slider Showers

The Serenity is by far the best product for the best price.  Many companies offer 3rd party options and may even be slightly cheeper.  We spec each hole for the glass and cut the header bar ourselves this cuts out the middleman and saves costs.  Many glass guys let a cad system with unacceptable tolerances do the work for them and they are happy to pass the expense onto to client.  Frameless Slider Shower Enclosures breathe new life into the classic sliding door system, offering a sleek and contemporary aesthetic. Crafted from high-quality stainless steel, the system ensures both long-lasting durability and an elegant appearance. Cambridge is a CRL product and we believe it is the best product on the market. We are able to save the client money because of the skills. Only a highly skilled interior glazer can successfully make all the deductions to cut the header and find drill locations for fabrication of the system. 

Napa Shower

Frameless Bypassing Barn Door with a Rectangular Header and a sleek, functional header mount that holds sliding panels securely while reducing the need for bumpers.  The Napa is an Agalite product and we generally would offer Cambridge to get the better product for a better price.  The Napa can be ordered precut or in stock lengths.  Most other companies order precut and accept the tolerances.  Judd's is truly custom and we keep tight tolerances.

Framed Showers

Many individuals are acquainted with classic framed showers. These feature a metal framework that encircles the glass and runs along both the top and bottom of the door.  The framed option comes with thinner glass and saves money but it also has the cost of metals and increased install time.  So, we generally focus on the more modern frameless systems with thicker glass.

Silhouette Bypassing Doors

The Door('s) is often made with 1/4" thick glass without a frame (the frame is still around the floor wall and header.  And if there is a fixed sidelight it is often made with 3/16" thick glass.  Handles and hardware securely attached through holes in the glassSilhouette sliding doors offer the most options in the industry. All shower doors use the highest quality solid brass and stainless steel hardware.
